The 8 log levels in ZF

05.07.2010 10:27 | Zend Framework

Are you wondering about what levels of logging also known as severity to use in your applications? Zend introduces the following 8 log levels in their Zend_Log class:

1. EMERG = 0; // Emergency: system is unusable
2. ALERT = 1;  // Alert: action must be taken immediately
3. CRIT = 2;  // Critical: critical conditions
4. ERR = 3;  // Error: error conditions
5. WARN = 4;  // Warning: warning conditions
6. NOTICE = 5;  // Notice: normal but significant condition
7. INFO = 6;  // Informational: informational messages
8. DEBUG = 7;  // Debug: debug messages

These 8 levels are taken from the BSD syslog and correspond with the PEAR Log.

With the background that these 8 levels have it might be worth considering using the very same levels on your own loggingsystem or simply use the Zend_Log class.
